His death was confirmed through a post on his official Instagram page, which displayed his photograph with the caption, “Rest in peace, legend.”

Okoye, popularly known as “Energy” among fans and colleagues, was a professor in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

He was widely recognised in Nollywood for his strong performances in traditional and cultural roles.

Fellow actor Ken Erics expressed deep shock over his passing, describing the loss as heartbreaking. He revealed that he had spoken with Okoye just a day before his death, noting that the news came as a complete surprise.

Erics wrote, “This one hits hard because we spoke barely 24 hours before your demise, and you were hale and hearty. Getting a call from your number 24 hours after this devastation was the least expected. I don’t know where to begin. Indeed, the creative world has lost a gem!”

He also credited the late actor for playing a key role in shaping his career, saying Okoye encouraged him to study Theatre Arts and supported his early development in the industry.

According to him, Okoye, along with other mentors, taught him acting and dance during his university days at UNIZIK.

Erics further recalled accompanying him to auditions while still a student, describing him as a constant source of guidance and encouragement.

He praised the late actor as a multi-talented artist, highlighting his skills as an actor, dancer, and singer, as well as his passion for nurturing young talents.

Okoye’s influence, he said, extended beyond acting into music and stage productions, where he also mentored students and colleagues.

He concluded his tribute by mourning the loss deeply, praying for strength for the family and loved ones, and bidding him a final farewell.

Patrick Okoye rose to prominence in Nollywood through films such as Onye Ozil, The Duplex, Midnight Love, Old School, Finding a Wife, The Lion, The Jagaban, and Over My Dead Body.
