Tension arose in Abuja on Saturday after security operatives blocked access to a venue slated for a special convention organised by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The convention was expected to hold at the A-Class Event Centre in the Federal Capital Territory and was reportedly intended to ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate.

However, police officers deployed several patrol vehicles along roads leading to the event centre, effectively restricting access to the facility. The blockade affected routes connecting the venue from both the Wuse and Maitama areas of Abuja.

The action prevented members of the PDP faction from gaining entry into the venue and also disrupted movement for other road users in the area, as access was heavily restricted.

The development followed a warning from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who cautioned hotels and event centres against hosting what he described as illegal political groups or activities.

The warning was linked to ongoing security concerns within the FCT.

As of the time of filing this report, security operatives remained stationed at the location, while it was still unclear whether the organisers would relocate the convention or make alternative arrangements.
