Eno made this remark on Saturday during his third anniversary media briefing held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Uyo, the state capital.
His comments come amid speculations that his relationship with Emmanuel—often described as his political mentor—may have become strained.
Reflecting on his rise to office, the governor explained that the former governor supported him, selected him against expectations, and played a key role in securing his victory in the 2023 governorship election.
He said, “Politics was not my career path, but God placed me in the heart of Udom Emmanuel, and he did everything for me.
“Because of that, I will not participate in speaking negatively about past leaders in the state. I may not be a perfect politician, but there are certain things I cannot do.
“In another life, I would want to be a politician who can tell lies easily, but as a government, we are focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.”
No Disrespect to Past Leaders
Governor Eno reiterated that regardless of political opinions or speculations, he would not engage in any form of criticism against Udom Emmanuel or other former leaders of the state.
He stressed that loyalty, gratitude, and respect for those who contributed to his political journey remain core values he will uphold, despite political pressures.
His remarks were seen as a response to claims that his political alliance with Emmanuel has weakened since assuming office.
He added that while politics often involves shifting interests, he remains committed to his personal principles.
Infrastructure and Governance Plans
On the issue of project execution, Eno warned that his administration would not tolerate wastage of public funds on abandoned or poorly executed contracts.
He said the government would review ongoing projects and terminate any that fail to meet performance expectations.
According to him, several major infrastructure projects are currently underway across the state, including the dualisation of Ring Road III and the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden–Iko Road with bridges.
Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and ensuring strict supervision of contractors to guarantee value for money.
Road Monitoring and Public Participation
Addressing road conditions in Uyo, the governor announced plans to establish a monitoring committee to identify potholes and damaged road sections within the metropolis.
He said the committee would include journalists, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to enhance transparency and ensure prompt reporting of road issues.
Power Supply and Development Commitment
On electricity challenges in the state, Eno appealed for patience, explaining that efforts were ongoing to improve power supply within existing technical and structural frameworks.
He noted that certain foundational and implementation issues must first be addressed before stable electricity can be achieved.
The governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and improved welfare for the people of Akwa Ibom State, promising to continue delivering the benefits of democracy across all communities.
