What Goodluck Jonathan Told Me About 2027 Presidential Race — Close Associate Reveals Sh*ck Details
Close associates of former President Goodluck Jonathan have dismissed reports suggesting he may be preparing a return to the presidency in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A former aide, Jude Imagwe, had earlier said there was no evidence that Jonathan had received, completed, or submitted any nomination forms for a possible presidential bid. He added that the former president was not “power-drunk” enough to seek a return to Aso Rock.
Further clarifying the matter, Jonathan’s associates told Punch that the reports linking him to the 2027 race were politically driven and misleading, adding that a formal statement would soon be issued to address the speculation.
According to them, Jonathan’s name is being used by certain individuals to advance personal or factional interests and create confusion within the political space.
A former minister and close associate of the ex-president said that if Jonathan intended to contest, he would already be actively engaging in consultations and political mobilization across the country.
He stressed that there was no indication whatsoever that the former president plans to return to electoral politics in 2027.
The source noted that Jonathan, as a respected statesman who served for about six years, would not pursue a presidential ambition in secrecy or ambiguity.
He explained that a serious aspirant would openly obtain nomination forms, participate in party processes, and publicly declare intentions, none of which Jonathan has done.
The associate further argued that the recurring rumours around Jonathan’s political comeback are a familiar pattern during election cycles, even though the former president has consistently avoided directly addressing such claims.
Another source also described the situation as politically motivated, saying individuals were exploiting Jonathan’s name due to his influence and past leadership.
He added that Jonathan himself had not informed his close circle of any intention to contest, recounting a recent light-hearted exchange in which the former president reportedly responded, “Under which party?” when asked about a possible run.
The associates maintained that Jonathan has not purchased, filled, or submitted any nomination form, nor has he made any public declaration of interest in the 2027 presidential election.
They concluded that while politics often generates speculation, a formal clarification would eventually be issued to put the matter to rest.
