The incident occurred on Friday during a Democracy Day protest organised to draw attention to insecurity, economic hardship, and concerns over governance.

According to Vanguard, witnesses said the demonstration, which involved activists and civil society groups, was disrupted after security operatives fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Eyewitnesses reported that chaos ensued as protesters fled the area to escape the effects of the tear gas.

Sowore was said to have been affected by the fumes and subsequently lost consciousness amid the confusion.

Supporters and fellow activists quickly assisted him and moved him away from the protest ground.

Sources close to him indicated that he regained consciousness while being transported from the scene in a vehicle.

He was later taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

The development heightened tension at the protest location, with demonstrators condemning the police response.

The protesters had gathered to demand urgent government action on insecurity, economic hardship, and broader governance challenges in the country.
