The affected citizens, who are eager to return home, staged a protest at the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, demanding faster repatriation processes and the timely scheduling of return flights.

In a video shared online by News Central and seen by our correspondent, the protesters were heard chanting “we no go gree o, we wan go” as they expressed frustration over the situation.

The demonstration comes amid ongoing efforts to evacuate Nigerians willing to leave South Africa due to rising anti-immigration tensions and reports of xenophobic incidents.

About two weeks ago, the first batch of evacuees, numbering 262 Nigerians, arrived in Lagos on a government-arranged Air Peace flight following renewed attacks.

The returnees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and security agencies were on ground to receive them.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has assured Nigerians in South Africa that all citizens who have registered their interest to return will be evacuated before the June 30 deadline.

The assurance was given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in a statement released on Thursday by her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Magnus Eze.

She reiterated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the safety and welfare of Nigerians abroad, pledging that no willing citizen would be left behind in the evacuation process.
