The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this known during an interview on Trust TV, where he addressed concerns over Amaechi’s silence since the announcement of his nomination.

Abdullahi dismissed speculation surrounding the issue, arguing that Amaechi is not required to publicly declare acceptance of the position.

Responding to questions about unease among some party members over the absence of a personal confirmation from Amaechi, Abdullahi said such expectations were misplaced.

“What do you want to hear? That he has accepted? Did he have a duty to announce that he has accepted? You should assume that discussions took place before the party made its announcement,” he said.

He maintained that it is political parties, not individual candidates, that formally communicate such decisions, insisting that due process was followed before Amaechi’s nomination was announced.

“What more do you expect from the candidate? For him to come out and say, ‘My party has nominated me as running mate, I hereby accept’? When has that ever been the practice?” he added.

According to him, Amaechi’s silence should not be interpreted as rejection or uncertainty about the nomination.

“The party has taken a position and announced it. No one has come out to dispute it or say it is untrue. Our running mate for 2027 is His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi,” he stated.

When asked whether Amaechi personally agreed before the announcement, Abdullahi declined to go into internal party deliberations but insisted that the decision followed established procedures.

“The party took a decision, and there was a process that led to it,” he said.

He further disclosed that both the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Amaechi would be formally presented to Nigerians at an appropriate time.

“At the right time, we will unveil both candidates. The campaign has not even begun, and we are yet to formally present our flagbearers,” he said.

Abdullahi also emphasized that the ADC is focused on strengthening internal democracy and party supremacy over individual interests.

“We are building a political party where the institution is supreme,” he said, adding that the ADC was proud to have conducted what he described as a nationwide internal election across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
