Will Trump Save Diddy? Pardon Speculation Intensifies After Conviction
United States President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing the possibility of granting a presidential pardon to music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs as part of a sweeping clemency initiative marking America’s 250th Independence anniversary.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to The Independent, the proposed initiative, dubbed “250 pardons for 250 years,” could see the White House issue hundreds of pardons during the country’s Independence Day celebrations.
The report also states that Trump is considering clemency for Prakazrel “Pras” Michel, a member of the hip-hop group The Fugees, who is serving a prison sentence over foreign lobbying-related offences.
Combs is currently being held at a federal correctional facility in New Jersey after his conviction on prostitution-related charges. He has since appealed both the verdict and the sentence, while Michel is also pursuing legal efforts to overturn his conviction.
Despite the renewed speculation, the White House referred to comments Trump made earlier this year denying that he was planning to pardon Combs. In January, the president said he was not considering clemency for the music executive, even as he claimed Combs had written to him requesting a pardon.
Trump and Combs were once part of the same New York social and business circles before Trump’s entry into politics. However, the president has previously stated that they have not spoken in years and that their relationship ended after he launched his political career.
On Friday, Trump disclosed that he had signed six pardons for individuals he said were unfairly prosecuted during former President Joe Biden’s administration over vehicle-related offences.
The president has consistently argued that those cases were unjust, although they stemmed from alleged violations of environmental regulations under the Clean Air Act.
