The documents have added a new dimension to the controversy surrounding the PFIPC, following the Presidency’s insistence that the council was never officially established and allegations that Adeyemi relied on forged appointment and approval documents while presenting himself as its Director-General.
The Presidency has also called on the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute any public officials found to have assisted Adeyemi.
According to Vanguard, the newly surfaced correspondence shows that the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office in the OSGF, Nadungu Gagare, approved Adeyemi’s participation in the Canada-Africa Fintech Summit.
The letter authorised him to join Nigeria’s delegation to the event, which was scheduled to take place in Canada from August 3 to 8, 2025.
Signed by Gagare on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the correspondence also directed Adeyemi to register for the summit and coordinate the participation of other relevant stakeholders.
“In accordance with Mr President’s economic strategies and agenda, I invite you to participate in and join the Nigerian delegation to Canada from August 3 to 8, 2025,” the letter stated.
It described the Canada-Africa Fintech Summit as a platform designed to strengthen Nigeria’s economic partnerships, promote digital finance and technology, deepen bilateral trade relations and attract foreign direct investment (FDI).
“The CAFS Summit highlights strategic roles in digital finance and technology among stakeholders worldwide. This initiative will significantly contribute to advancing our economic vision, strengthening development priorities, enhancing bilateral trade relations and attracting foreign direct investment to the Nigerian economy,” the letter read.
The OSGF further requested that Adeyemi facilitate the involvement of other stakeholders in the programme.
“Given the above, you are urgently requested to register and involve other stakeholders in the programme. Your experience, technical support and presence will strengthen this delegation,” the correspondence added.
The letter also advised Adeyemi to contact the Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office and the summit’s organising committee for additional information regarding the event.
The emergence of the document has further intensified the controversy surrounding the PFIPC and the conflicting claims between Adeyemi and the Presidency, particularly the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the council’s legal status and operations.
