Fresh Twist: Oshiomhole Wants South African Companies’ Profits Used To Compensate Nigerian Victims
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, has urged the Federal Government to appropriate the profits of South African companies operating in Nigeria and use the funds to compensate Nigerians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The former Edo State governor made the proposal on Tuesday during plenary in the Senate while lawmakers debated renewed reports of attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.
According to Oshiomhole, the measure would be an appropriate response to comments reportedly made by a South African government official indicating that compensation would not be paid to Nigerians who suffered losses during the attacks.
“Following the comments by the South African minister that compensation will not be paid to Nigerians whose properties were looted, whose shops were burnt and whose lives were lost, the Nigerian government should reciprocate by appropriating the profits of South African companies operating in Nigeria, including their banking interests, and use those funds to compensate the affected Nigerians,” Oshiomhole said.
