Fresh Twist As Court Adjourns Corruption Trial Of Ex-Jigawa Governor Lamido, Two Sons

The trial of former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha Lamido, was on Monday stalled at the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, following the absence of their lead counsel, Joe Agi (SAN).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The case, presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, involves a 37-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), bordering on alleged money laundering, kickbacks and fraudulent contract awards amounting to ₦1.35 billion. The alleged offences were said to have been committed during Lamido’s tenure as Jigawa State governor between 2007 and 2015.

At the commencement of proceedings, EFCC counsel Chile Okoroma (SAN) informed the court that the defence had written to notify him that Agi would be absent due to a medical procedure and had requested an adjournment.

While wishing the senior lawyer a speedy recovery, Okoroma argued that another member of the defence team could have represented him to allow the trial to continue, noting that the case had been pending since 2015.

The prosecution also pointed out that Justice Ojukwu had travelled from the Calabar Judicial Division to Abuja specifically to hear the matter, urging the court to grant only a one-day adjournment.

Justice Ojukwu agreed with the prosecution’s request and adjourned the case until Tuesday, July 21, 2026, for the continuation of trial.
