Fresh Details Emerge On Operation That Led To PFIPC ‘Fake DG’ Adeyemi’s Arrest
A man identified by police as the self-proclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, was arrested last Tuesday during an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The operation was led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Moses Lohor, with Adeyemi reportedly apprehended between 11 a.m. and 12 noon inside a building in the Ijebu-Ijesa area of Osun State.
His arrest followed a bench warrant reportedly issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja after he allegedly failed to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge.
Providing details of the operation, a senior officer of the Osun State Police Command told The PUNCH that Adeyemi had initially evaded efforts by the Department of State Services (DSS) to apprehend him before the case was transferred to the IRT.
According to the source, the DSS had last tracked Adeyemi to Ibadan but was unable to arrest him because he frequently switched off his mobile phone, making it difficult to monitor his movements.
The police officer said the IRT, led by CSP Lohor, took over the investigation after the DSS withdrew from the case and began fresh efforts to locate the suspect.
He disclosed that Adeyemi’s whereabouts were first traced to the Aregbe-Fakule area of Osogbo on July 9 before investigators later picked up another signal placing him in Ilesa.
The fresh intelligence prompted the operatives to intensify surveillance, leading to his arrest on Tuesday morning in Ijebu-Ijesa.
“The Moses Lohor team were in Osun for surveillance ahead of the August 15 governorship election. They were mapping hotspots and gathering intelligence. The team operated from the Area Command office at Oke-Fia in Osogbo and did not report directly to the Osun State Police Command,” the source said.
He added that although Adeyemi had been on the team’s watch list, no action was initially taken because the matter was being handled by the DSS.
According to the officer, the breakthrough came after police authorities in Abuja informed the IRT that the DSS had stepped away from the investigation, paving the way for a renewed tracking operation.
“Late on Monday night, Adeyemi’s location indicated he was around Ilesa. The team immediately intensified its efforts, which eventually led to his arrest on Tuesday morning. The Osun State Commissioner of Police was only informed when the operatives moved in to effect the arrest,” the source added.
Adeyemi is currently being held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and is expected to be arraigned before the Federal High Court on July 27.
