Traffic Chaos As Crash Triggers Massive Gridlock On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The congestion occurred around the Kara Bridge axis, where emergency responders temporarily restricted traffic to facilitate the removal of the damaged vehicle from the roadway.

The recovery exercise caused a lengthy queue of vehicles, with traffic reportedly extending to the New Garage area.

Commuters heading towards Ogun State experienced the worst delays as the temporary closure significantly slowed traffic along the busy expressway.

Traffic management officials said the restriction was necessary to ensure the safe evacuation of the crashed vehicle and to protect both emergency personnel and other road users from potential hazards during the operation.

As a result, many motorists spent several hours stranded in traffic while the recovery exercise was underway.

In contrast, vehicles travelling towards Lagos from the Mowe-Ibafo corridor continued to move with minimal disruption, as traffic on that stretch remained largely unaffected.

Authorities appealed to affected motorists to remain calm, cooperate with traffic officials and obey all directives issued at the scene.

They assured road users that normal traffic flow would resume once the recovery operation was completed and the affected section of the expressway was fully cleared.

Motorists were also advised against driving recklessly or attempting to bypass the congestion through unauthorised routes, warning that such actions could increase the risk of further accidents and worsen the traffic situation.

Meanwhile, officials confirmed that a container-laden truck which had earlier fallen around the Cater Bridge axis had been successfully removed from the road.

Its evacuation restored the free flow of traffic in the area and eased concerns among commuters using that section of the expressway.

The latest operations form part of ongoing efforts by traffic authorities to keep the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway free of obstructions and maintain the smooth movement of vehicles.

Road users have been urged to exercise caution while travelling, especially in areas where emergency response or road clearance operations are in progress, and to adhere to traffic regulations, maintain safe following distances and remain alert to instructions from officials on duty.
