Fresh Twist As ICPC Interrogates Alleged PFIPC Founder Behind Bars

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Wednesday interrogated Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged founder of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), while he remained in police custody at the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Adeyemi was questioned over allegations linked to the establishment, operations and purported government recognition of the PFIPC, a body whose legal status has come under intense scrutiny. However, the interrogation was not concluded, with investigators expected to continue the exercise at a later date.

The controversy surrounding the PFIPC stems from claims that Adeyemi presented himself as the Director-General of a presidential agency that several government institutions have since disowned, insisting they neither created nor recognised the council.

Investigators are also examining documents allegedly used to legitimise the organisation, the opening of bank accounts in its name, and reports that it was included in federal budget proposals. The allegations remain under investigation and have yet to be determined by any court.

According to sources familiar with the investigation who spoke to The Punch, ICPC officials arrived at the Cybercrime Centre around 10 a.m. to begin questioning Adeyemi. The session, however, was postponed after his newly engaged lawyer failed to appear.

To safeguard the suspect’s right to legal representation, investigators rescheduled the interview for 3 p.m.

“The ICPC came to the Cybercrime Centre around 10 a.m. to interview Adeyemi, but the session could not proceed because his lawyer was absent. That was why it was shifted to 3 p.m.,” a senior police source said.

Another source confirmed that Adeyemi’s lawyer later arrived, allowing the interrogation to proceed in his presence. However, investigators were unable to complete the questioning and may resume the exercise in the coming days.

“His lawyer eventually came, and the interrogation took place in his presence. They couldn’t conclude the session today, so it may continue later, possibly tomorrow,” the source disclosed.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has intensified its probe into the legal status and activities of the PFIPC.

The parliamentary committee investigating the matter is expected to hear from several senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

Also expected before the lawmakers are the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi.

The committee is examining how the PFIPC allegedly gained access to official government processes, its reported appearance in the 2026 federal budget, its funding arrangements, and its alleged use of official correspondence and government facilities.
