You Can Never Be Bigger Than Kwankwaso!” — NDC Fires Back At Ganduje

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed comments by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, who questioned the ability of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ganduje had argued that neither Obi nor Kwankwaso possesses the political record needed to pose a serious threat to the Tinubu administration in the next general election.

Responding in an interview with The Punch, the NDC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, described Ganduje’s remarks as baseless, insisting that the former APC chairman no longer wields significant political influence in Kano State.

“I think Ganduje is merely making noise,” Abdulsalam said. “In the NDC, we believe politics is ultimately determined by the people’s support. When the time comes, the electorate will decide.”

He maintained that Ganduje’s political standing has declined, alleging that the former governor has lost relevance both in Kano and within the APC.

“Today, Ganduje is no longer the political force he once was in Kano. Even within his party, he has gradually been pushed aside and continues to lose influence,” he stated.

Abdulsalam also pointed to the long political relationship between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, noting that the former APC chairman once served as Kwankwaso’s deputy governor.

“Ganduje was Kwankwaso’s deputy, and Kwankwaso played a major role in his emergence as governor. No child can claim to be greater or wiser than the father who raised him. For Ganduje to suggest otherwise is simply political grandstanding,” he added.

He stressed that the NDC would not be drawn into a war of words, expressing confidence that the party would prove its strength at the ballot box.

“We are not interested in exchanging insults. When the elections come, Nigerians will see what we have to offer, and we are confident of our chances, especially in Kano, because of how well we are organised,” he said.

On the prospects of a Kwankwaso-Obi alliance, Abdulsalam argued that Peter Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election demonstrated his growing national appeal.

He recalled that Obi secured about six million votes despite the prevailing political environment at the time, adding that the current economic and social conditions could further boost his support ahead of the 2027 polls.

“The whole country witnessed the level of support Peter Obi received in the last election. With the current state of affairs, we believe he will attract even greater support, including from northern Nigeria,” Abdulsalam said.
