Political Bombshell! Sam Amadi Speaks On How Yar’Adua’s Body Returned To Nigeria

The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has alleged that the remains of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua were brought back to Nigeria from Saudi Arabia before the public was officially informed of his death.

Amadi made the claim on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television while discussing the controversies surrounding the deaths of past Nigerian leaders and the need for greater openness in government.

According to him, the secrecy that surrounded Yar’Adua’s prolonged illness and eventual death exposed deeper concerns about transparency, accountability and the documentation of important national events.

He argued that the circumstances surrounding the late president’s health became a national mystery because government officials were unwilling to provide Nigerians with clear and timely information.

“This reflects a broader challenge we have as a country. We struggle with documenting history and establishing facts. If a sitting president dies in office, the public should know exactly what happened,” Amadi said.

Recalling his time in government, Amadi stated that discussions about Yar’Adua’s medical condition were treated as highly sensitive, leaving even senior officials with limited information.

“I was serving in government when President Yar’Adua passed away, and issues concerning his health were almost taboo. Very few people were willing to speak openly about his condition,” he said.

The former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) disclosed that some senior government officials travelled to Saudi Arabia to obtain first-hand information about the president’s condition.

“At the time, I was serving as a Special Adviser. Ojo Maduekwe and several other officials had to travel to Saudi Arabia to find out what was happening to our president, who was receiving treatment there. The entire situation was shrouded in secrecy,” he stated.

Amadi further alleged that Nigerians were only made aware of the situation after Yar’Adua’s remains had already been returned to the country.

“We didn’t know what had happened until late at night, when President Yar’Adua’s body was allegedly brought back into Nigeria, after which Goodluck Jonathan assumed office,” he claimed.
