Why Can’t You Advise Him Privately?’ — Ayekooto Slams Aisha Yesufu Over Peter Obi Interview

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has reacted to activist Aisha Yesufu’s criticism of a recent television interview granted by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.

Yesufu had, on Monday, expressed disappointment with Obi’s appearance on Channels Television, saying she regretted spending time watching the interview with anchor Seun Akinbaloye.

According to her, the interview failed to produce fresh insights, arguing that Obi did not make any statements that Nigerians had not already heard.

Responding in a post on his Facebook page, Akindele suggested that Yesufu’s reaction may have been influenced by her reported loss in the NDC’s Federal Capital Territory senatorial primary.

He further alleged that tensions increased after the NDC reportedly centralised its campaign funding, claiming Obi had not publicly addressed the issue during his media appearances.

“The anger was aggravated when the NDC centralised the campaign purse and Obi has not criticised that in any of his numerous interviews. So, what is the essence of the interviews if Obi cannot defend you politically and financially?” he wrote.

Akindele also questioned why Yesufu chose to air her grievances publicly instead of raising them privately with the former Anambra State governor.

“Why go on social media to criticise your principal? Why can’t she offer such advice during their strategy meetings or in a private conversation?” he asked.

He went on to suggest that if Yesufu had direct access to Obi, there would be no need to express her concerns publicly, adding that trusted advisers typically communicate sensitive issues behind closed doors rather than through social media.
