Rivers Crisis: Abe-Led Panel Opens High-Stakes Talks Between Fubara, Wike Camps

The Magnus Abe-led reconciliation committee of the Rainbow Coalition has commenced talks aimed at resolving differences between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the coalition.

The committee was established to facilitate reconciliation between the governor, his supporters and members of the coalition.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had disclosed during his monthly media chat in Abuja last Wednesday that the coalition would meet with the governor as part of efforts to resolve the political differences.

Photographs from the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday indicated that the committee had commenced its reconciliation meetings.

Among those present as representatives of the FCT minister’s camp were Dr Samuel Nwanosike, Ambassador Desmond Akawor and House of Representatives member Kelechi Nwogu, among others.

Representing Governor Fubara’s camp was a former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr Tamunosiki Gogo-Jaja.

The meeting was also attended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Kingsley Chinda.

The reconciliation committee comprises 13 members, including Abe, who serves as its chairman.

Details of the discussions were not made public as of the time of filing this report.

However, a source told Punch that the meeting was limited to members of the committee who had been selected to participate in the reconciliation process.

The development comes shortly after Fubara declared at a public function that he had returned to his “political family” and openly endorsed Chinda, the APC governorship candidate.

The governor also called on his supporters to join the Rainbow Coalition and back Chinda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
