Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Oyedepo Reacts With Explosive ‘He Must Be Mad’ Remark
The President and founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has criticised Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir over remarks suggesting that Nigeria belongs to the Muslim community.
Jingir reportedly made the comments at a political gathering in Kano State earlier this month while expressing support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the January election.
The cleric was reported to have argued that Muslims constitute the majority of Nigeria’s population and that Christians are a minority.
Reacting to the remarks in a sermon captured in a video circulating online, Oyedepo challenged the claim that Nigeria is an Islamic nation.
He urged those who hold such a view to consider the size and reach of some of the country’s largest Christian congregations.
Oyedepo specifically mentioned prominent Christian ministries, including Redemption Camp, Salvation Ministries and Dunamis, and encouraged people to observe the large number of worshippers who attend their services.
“Watch Redemption Camp, Salvation Ministries, Dunamis and other ministries in Nigeria,” Oyedepo said.
Questioning the basis for describing Nigeria as an Islamic country, the cleric asked whether anyone making such a claim was “mad”, before adding, “Yes, he must be mad.”
Oyedepo also made a prediction about events he said could unfold in Nigeria over the next year.
“Now, watch, there shall be strange happenings between now and the next twelve months in Nigeria,” he said.
