Inviting VeryDarkMan Will Backfire” – Fayose Warns IGP, Says Police May Face More Embarrassment

Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has warned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) that inviting social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to provide evidence of his allegations could further embarrass the Nigeria Police Force.

VeryDarkMan made the allegations on Tuesday while appearing as a panellist at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt.

During the event, the activist alleged that some police officers stationed at checkpoints along major highways provide kidnappers and bandits with information about travellers, including their identities and movements.

Following the allegation, the Nigeria Police Force invited VeryDarkMan to present evidence to substantiate his claims.

Reacting to the development in a social media post, Fayose said the IGP should not wait for evidence from the activist but should instead conduct an undercover investigation to establish the situation for himself.

He suggested that the police chief dress in civilian clothing and travel along major routes at night to observe the activities of officers at checkpoints.

Fayose further alleged that corruption within the police is widely known, claiming that even President Bola Tinubu is aware of the problem.

He said:

“VeryDarkMan said Nigeria Police officers are corrupt and IGP is now inviting him to bring evidence.

“IGP, so you don’t know that your officers are corrupt? They are underpaid and very corrupt. Even a one-year-old baby in Nigeria knows that police are corrupt.

“Just wear mufti and drive around at night and you will see your officers. So, looking for evidence is a misplaced priority. Even the president of our country knows that the police are corrupt.

“You don’t need evidence, just drive from Abuja to Kogi in mufti, all the evidence you need is there. Inviting VeryDarkMan is going to embarrass the police more.
