Outcry as Nurse Taiwo Godwin Ayodeji D!es After Asthma Emergency At Federal Hospital
A nurse identified as Taiwo Godwin Ayodeji has reportedly died following an asthma attack at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid allegations by a colleague that oxygen was not properly administered during his treatment.
According to Bush Radio Academy, an eyewitness alleged that Ayodeji, who was reportedly a known asthma patient at the hospital, was brought to the facility after experiencing difficulty breathing while playing football.
The eyewitness, whose account was reported by SaharaReporters, said the nurse was still able to walk into the hospital’s emergency unit upon arrival, accompanied by a friend who brought him for medical attention.
However, the source alleged that although Ayodeji was placed on oxygen equipment, the oxygen supply was not switched on.
“I noticed he was on oxygen, but the oxygen was not put on,” the eyewitness reportedly said.
The source further alleged that Ayodeji’s condition worsened before medical personnel attended to him, claiming that he had developed a weak pulse and dilated pupils.
According to the account, a doctor reportedly encountered difficulties while attempting to access the nurse’s vein, while subsequent efforts to secure his airway were allegedly unsuccessful. A doctor later pronounced him dead, the eyewitness claimed.
The allegations have raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding Ayodeji’s death and the medical care he received at the facility. However, the claims have not been independently verified, and no official response from the hospital was included in the available account.
The eyewitness also alleged that Ayodeji’s death was the second reported case involving a nurse from the same school at the hospital within the year, prompting further questions about the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
The reported death has drawn attention to the importance of timely emergency intervention and adherence to appropriate treatment procedures when patients experience severe asthma attacks. The allegations would require an independent investigation to establish the facts and determine whether any lapses occurred in the care provided to the deceased nurse.
