Tinubu 2027: Oyo APC Moves To Reconcile Aggrieved Aspirants Ahead Of Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has intensified efforts to unite its members and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections following a reconciliation exercise involving aspirants who were dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s recent House of Assembly primary.

The reconciliation meetings reportedly resulted in most of the affected aspirants agreeing to set aside their differences and work together toward strengthening the party across the state’s 32 constituencies ahead of the 2027 polls.

The development is being viewed as a significant step toward restoring unity within the Oyo State chapter of the APC, particularly following complaints and protests that reportedly emerged after the conduct of the primary election.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Oyo State APC House of Assembly Reconciliation Committee said it had made considerable progress in addressing concerns raised by aspirants and other party stakeholders.

The committee, chaired by Alhaji Mufitau Adisa Gbayawu, with Bisoye Fagade as Co-Chairman and Barrister Dr Rotimi Okeowo as Secretary, said it held discussions with individuals who purchased nomination forms as well as other members interested in the electoral process.

The committee said the engagements were conducted with the aim of promoting reconciliation, unity, mutual understanding and the overall interest of the party.

It commended the aspirants for demonstrating maturity and sportsmanship by prioritising the collective interest of the APC over their individual political ambitions.

The reconciled aspirants also reportedly agreed to cooperate with one another and the party leadership in its efforts to secure victory for the APC during the 2027 elections.

As part of the agreement, they pledged their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, as well as APC candidates contesting seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Oyo State House of Assembly.

The reconciliation committee urged other members and stakeholders to sustain the peace-building efforts and avoid actions capable of reopening old divisions within the party as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

Speaking on the exercise, Gbayawu said members of the committee met individually with the affected aspirants, giving them the opportunity to explain their grievances concerning the primary election.

He acknowledged the right of party members to express dissatisfaction but stressed the importance of placing the broader interest of the party above individual political ambitions.

Gbayawu said the concerns raised by the aspirants were among the reasons party leadership established the reconciliation committees, adding that the APC was committed to addressing issues that could threaten its internal cohesion.

He commended the aggrieved members for agreeing to move beyond their personal ambitions and support the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Oyo State APC Gubernatorial Reconciliation Committee also participated in the peace-building process, with its Co-Chairman, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, urging the aspirants to maintain the spirit of unity.

Lanlehin, who referenced his own experiences of winning and losing political contests, said he understood the disappointment associated with electoral setbacks but encouraged the aspirants to remain committed to the party.

His fellow Co-Chairman, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, also praised the aspirants for choosing to work with the party leadership despite their earlier grievances.

The APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, welcomed the reconciliation and described unity among party members as crucial to the party’s prospects in the 2027 election.

Alli assured party stakeholders that he would work with members across the state if elected governor on May 29, 2027, while also promising to implement local government fiscal autonomy in Oyo State.

The reconciliation comes as APC leaders continue efforts to strengthen internal unity and prevent disagreements from affecting the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The reconciliation committee expressed optimism that the renewed cooperation among aspirants, party leaders and other stakeholders would improve the APC’s chances of recording a strong performance at the polls.

The committee maintained that with unity of purpose and collective commitment, the party could achieve a decisive victory in Oyo State in 2027.
