Bandits have reportedly launched a midnight attack on a community in Kano State, killing a resident and abducting the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rogo Local Government Area, Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya.

The attackers reportedly stormed the community at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, firing sporadically before targeting the APC chairman’s residence.

According to Bush Radio Academy, a community source said the gunmen forced their way into Yahaya’s home, brought him outside and took him away. During the operation, they reportedly shot a young resident who was said to be about 25 years old, killing him instantly.

Several other residents were also reportedly injured by gunfire during the attack.

The source said the attackers moved directly to the APC chairman’s residence after arriving in the community, broke down the door and abducted him before fleeing the area.

Yahaya is reportedly a close associate of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who is also from Rogo Local Government Area.

The incident comes shortly after another attack in Kano State in which suspected kidnappers reportedly killed the APC chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area, Garba Buba.

Buba was allegedly shot when gunmen invaded the Rantan community on Sunday night and opened fire on residents. Another resident, identified as Sulaiman Zunduma, was also reportedly killed.

A resident, Hamza Isah Rantan, said the attackers arrived at about 11 p.m. and opened fire on the community.

According to the account, Buba sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and was taken to a hospital for medical attention but later died from his injuries.

The latest incidents have heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kano State, with residents increasingly worried about attacks by armed groups and the safety of political figures and members of local communities.
