Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the state’s ₦1.84 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, describing the development as the beginning of a new chapter of cooperation, unity and progress in the state.

Fubara expressed appreciation to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the people of Rivers State for their contributions to the budget process.

The governor said his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of residents while pursuing projects and policies aimed at advancing the development of the state.

In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday night, Fubara said the signing of the appropriation bill represented an important milestone for Rivers State.

He said, “Today, I signed the ₦1.84 trillion Rivers State 2026 Appropriation Bill into Law, marking a new chapter of cooperation, unity and progress.”

The governor also thanked Wike, the state lawmakers and Rivers residents for their commitment to the process, reiterating that the welfare of the people would remain at the centre of his administration’s agenda.

Fubara had earlier signed the bill at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, shortly after it was passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The appropriation, titled the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development,” was approved by the Martin Amaewhule-led House on Thursday after lawmakers reviewed some provisions contained in the governor’s initial proposal.

Describing the budget as a “breath of fresh air,” Fubara said its implementation would further support the state’s development and strengthen efforts to improve the lives of residents.

The signing of the 2026 budget comes amid renewed efforts to foster cooperation among key political stakeholders in Rivers State, with the governor expressing optimism about a more united and development-focused administration.
