Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will retain its political strength in Kaduna State and secure victory in the 2027 elections.

According to Musa, claims that voters in Kaduna and other parts of northern Nigeria are increasingly turning against the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are largely a matter of perception.

The minister made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today while responding to suggestions that voters could punish the ruling party over the performance of the Tinubu administration.

Asked whether the APC could lose Kaduna State in 2027, Musa said he was confident that the party would emerge victorious.

He clarified that his prediction extended beyond the presidential election to the governorship contest and other elective positions across the state.

Musa also dismissed suggestions of growing anti-APC sentiment in the North, arguing that some individuals were attempting to exploit public dissatisfaction for political purposes.

He maintained that the economic difficulties being experienced by Nigerians should not be interpreted as evidence that the ruling party had lost its support base.

The Defence Minister also defended Tinubu’s economic policies, acknowledging that some of the decisions taken by the administration had been difficult and painful for citizens.

However, he argued that the impact of the reforms would gradually become evident and that Nigerians would eventually understand the reasoning behind some of the decisions.

Musa urged citizens to give the administration time, insisting that developments in the economy would become clearer as the government’s policies continue to take effect.

His comments come amid increased political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures challenging the APC’s chances of retaining the presidency and making gains in states traditionally regarded as important political battlegrounds.

For now, Musa has maintained a strong position that the APC remains capable of winning the presidential, governorship and other major contests in Kaduna State.
