2027 Governorship Race: Jigawa PDP Names 45-Man Team For Major Political Offensive

The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced preparations for the 2027 governorship election with the unveiling of a 45-member campaign council led by the party’s governorship candidate, Mustapha Lamido.

Lamido announced the composition of the council in Dutse, the state capital, on Friday night, explaining that the team would coordinate the party’s mobilisation, grassroots engagement and campaign activities across the state’s 27 local government areas.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Lamido expressed confidence in the ability of the newly constituted council to strengthen the PDP’s campaign structure and expand its reach across Jigawa ahead of the 2027 election.

Inuwa Tahir was appointed Deputy Chairman of the campaign council, while Senator Mustapha Khabeeb will serve as Vice Chairman I, representing Jigawa Central. Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure was named Vice Chairman II for the North-West, while Yusuf Dunari will serve as Vice Chairman III for the North-East.

The council also includes several prominent political figures and stakeholders, among them former Inspector-General of Police Suleiman Abba, Dr Nuraddeen Mohammed, former deputy governorship candidate Babandi Gumel, Dr Aminu Taura and Professor Mustapha Jarumi.

Other members include serving and former lawmakers, party leaders and grassroots stakeholders such as Isah Zakari Bosuwa, Idris Alhaji Garba Kareka, Ali Idris Diginsa and Nasir Umar Roni.

Lamido said the inclusion of members of the State Working Committee and grassroots mobilisers was aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and ensuring effective coordination across the state.

In addition to the campaign council, the PDP candidate established a separate campaign directorate responsible for the day-to-day administration and implementation of the campaign.

Shehu Liman Wan was appointed Director-General of the campaign directorate, while Nasir Mohammed will serve as Secretary. Nuraddeen Muhammad was named Director of Strategy and Mobilisation, with Suleiman Abba assigned to oversee security.

Aminu Abubakar was appointed Director of Finance, while Umar Kyari will head Media and Publicity. Umar Birniwa will oversee Planning, Research, Organisation and Documentation.

Fahad Hashim was appointed Director of Youth and Support Groups, while Murja Garki will coordinate women’s mobilisation for the campaign.

Lamido expressed optimism that the team would work together to secure victory for the PDP in the 2027 Jigawa State governorship election.

The development follows Lamido’s emergence as the PDP’s governorship candidate in May after he became the sole aspirant for the party’s ticket. He was subsequently affirmed as the party’s candidate ahead of the election.
