Veteran Nigerian actor Olaiya Igwe has dismissed reports that he is seriously ill, explaining that a video showing him looking unwell was actually taken from a movie production and did not reflect his real health condition.

According to Bush Radio Academy, concern spread across social media on Thursday, September 10, 2026, after a video showing the actor appearing sick went viral. Some users expressed worry over his health, with others reportedly interpreting the footage as evidence that he was battling an illness.

Olaiya Igwe, however, clarified that the video was recorded during the production of a movie directed by fellow actor and filmmaker Mr Latin. He explained that he was acting the role of a sick father in the film, which caused some viewers to mistake the scene for a real-life situation.

The veteran actor said he was particularly disappointed by the reaction of some individuals who appeared to celebrate the false reports and even wished for his death. At the same time, he appreciated fans, colleagues and members of the public who contacted him to confirm whether he was actually ill.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page, Olaiya assured his supporters that he is healthy and that there is nothing wrong with him.

He explained that the movie scene was intended to portray his character as a sick father and that the footage unexpectedly generated widespread concern after it circulated online. While some people understood that he was acting, others reportedly believed that he was genuinely unwell and reached out to check on him.

The actor also expressed concern over those who celebrated the rumours, saying some individuals appeared pleased by the false impression that he was seriously ill.

Olaiya Igwe urged those who were genuinely concerned about him to remain calm, stressing that he is in good health and that the viral video should not be interpreted as an indication of any medical problem.

He further warned those wishing him harm, stating that such negativity would not change his condition and reaffirming that he remains well.
