Peter Obi Credentials Saga: Labour Party Distances Self From Arabambi’s Court Action

The Labour Party has distanced itself from a court case instituted by Abayomi Arabambi challenging the academic credentials and records of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Labour Party said Arabambi did not have its authorisation to institute the case or act on behalf of the party because he is no longer a member of the organisation.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, explained in a statement on Monday that Arabambi was among 25 members suspended by the National Executive Council in March over alleged anti-party activities.

Asogwa added that the suspension was subsequently ratified by the party’s National Convention on April 28, 2026, after which the affected individuals ceased to be members of the Labour Party.

The clarification followed reports that Arabambi had instituted legal proceedings against the West African Examinations Council, the National Youth Service Corps and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, concerning Obi’s academic records.

The Labour Party maintained that because Arabambi is no longer a member, he cannot initiate legal proceedings or undertake any action in the name of the party.

Asogwa further accused Arabambi of impersonation, particularly if he had presented himself publicly as a leader or representative of the Labour Party while pursuing the case.

The party stated that its lawyers were reviewing the matter to determine the appropriate legal and other measures that could be taken. It added that such steps could include submitting a petition to relevant law enforcement authorities if deemed necessary.

The Labour Party therefore urged the public to disregard any representation by Arabambi suggesting that he is acting on behalf of the party, stressing that any such action is unauthorised.
