Nollywood actor and former lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has publicly apologised to his political mentor and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, after months of political disagreements reportedly strained their long-standing relationship.

In a video that has gained significant attention on social media, Elliot is seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila as he pleads for forgiveness and seeks to restore his relationship with the political camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

The disagreement reportedly stemmed from political developments surrounding the Surulere Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to reports, Gbajabiamila and the Lagos APC leadership withdrew their backing for Elliot’s bid for a fourth term, choosing instead to support Barakat Odunuga-Bakare. Although Elliot was reportedly asked to step aside, he refused to abandon the race and maintained his intention to seek another term.

The disagreement intensified during the APC primary election. Elliot eventually pulled out of the contest, claiming that he had come under significant political pressure and that his supporters were being intimidated.

He subsequently hinted at the possibility of contesting under another political platform, a development that reportedly further damaged his relationship with the APC leadership and Gbajabiamila, whom he regards as his political mentor.

In a public apology shared on his Instagram page, Elliot expressed gratitude to Gbajabiamila for his guidance and support throughout his political career.

He wrote:

“I, Hon. Desmond Olusola Elliott, wish to sincerely express my heartfelt appreciation to my political father, mentor, and leader, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, for his unwavering guidance, support, and investment in my political journey over the years.

My respect and loyalty to Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila remain unwavering.

Everything I have achieved politically is all for Surulerians. Thanks for the love and always believing in me.

It is therefore important for me to publicly state that no political ambition or temporary disagreement is worth damaging a relationship built on years of trust, guidance, and shared commitment to the progress of our party and our people.

I appeal for understanding and unity as we continue to work together for the growth of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the development of Surulere, and the advancement of Lagos State and Nigeria.

I remain committed to the ideals of loyalty, service, and respect for party leadership.”
