Oshiomhole’s Constituency Projects: A Record of Delivery Across Edo North

For Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, representation in the National Assembly is increasingly being measured beyond speeches and debates. Across Edo North Senatorial District, constituency interventions captured under the 2024 Federal Government Budget are translating representation into roads, classrooms, water, lighting, markets, employment and economic opportunities.

Rather than being concentrated in one community or local government area, the interventions extend across the senatorial district, touching Auchi, Uzairue, Afowa, Jagbe, Elele, Ekperi, Okpella, Agenebode, Ozalla, Ojah, Ibillo, Eme-Ora, Uneme-Akiosu and other communities.

In infrastructure, the programme includes the ongoing Warake–Ivbiaro Road and the Iyuku–Atte Road connecting communities in Etsako West and Akoko-Edo local government areas.

Solar streetlights have also been completed at Uchi Market and Abu Inu-Umoru Street in Auchi, as well as in Eme-Ora, Ibillo, Afowa and Jagbe. These installations are expected to improve nighttime visibility, support commercial activity and strengthen security within the benefiting communities.

Access to water is another major component of the interventions. A solar-powered borehole has been completed at Elele, while additional boreholes have been awarded for Imiekhuli in Okpella, Utsukolo in Ekperi, Uneme-Akiosu and Agenebode.

Education has also received attention. New classroom blocks with principals’ offices have been awarded for Ozalla Secondary School, while construction is ongoing at Ojah Comprehensive High School in Akoko-Edo.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the intervention programme is investing directly in people.

A total of 370 youths and women have undergone skills-acquisition and empowerment programmes. Another 110 farmers received training, agricultural equipment, chemicals, spray tanks and financial support. Fertilisers have also been distributed across polling units, with further support involving herbicides, pesticides, cassava stems and maize seeds included in the programme.

Sixty-six teachers and education administrators were trained in records management and electronic documentation, receiving HP laptops and financial assistance to support the transition towards more efficient school administration.

Security personnel have not been left behind. Vigilantes and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel across Edo North received training and empowerment intended to strengthen grassroots security.

The interventions are also supporting commerce. Modern lock-up shops at Uzairue Market in Jattu have been completed, while the development of similar shops at Uchi Market in Auchi is ongoing.

Perhaps one of the most consequential aspects of the record is the facilitation of Federal Government employment for more than 70 Edo North youths, with appointment letters reportedly issued. For the beneficiaries and their families, these are not abstract political promises but life-changing opportunities.

The projects are at different stages—some completed, others ongoing, awarded or scheduled. That distinction is important. But collectively, they demonstrate the breadth of the constituency programme and establish a foundation upon which further development can be pursued.

The emerging argument for Oshiomhole is therefore simple: if this phase of his representation has attracted interventions across eight critical areas of community life, his growing experience and influence as a ranking senator could place him in an even stronger position to secure more for Edo North.

Ultimately, representation must be judged by what reaches the people.

For every community receiving light, water, classrooms, roads or modern market facilities—and for every farmer, teacher, trader, security operative or young person benefiting from an intervention—Oshiomhole’s constituency record offers evidence that effective representation can produce tangible results.

The speeches may be delivered in Abuja, but across Edo North, the evidence is being felt at home.
