Wike Breaks Silence, Reveals Why APC Governors Are Angry With Him

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that some governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress are unhappy with his appointment by President Bola Tinubu and have consequently become openly opposed to him.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Wike made the claim on Tuesday during an interview with Arise News, where he also accused the APC governors of influencing Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, against him during the political crisis that rocked the state.

The former Rivers State governor alleged that the APC governors played a role in escalating the dispute between him and Fubara, claiming that they misled the governor and distributed money during the crisis.

Wike maintained that despite their alleged efforts, the governors were unable to secure a second-term victory for Fubara.

He said the disagreement surrounding his ministerial appointment was at the root of some of the opposition he has faced from the APC governors.

“All these things you are seeing didn’t start today; it started with the ministerial position. They are not happy that I was given Minister of FCT. During the crisis with my governor, Fubara, they misled my governor and parted ways with some money. They couldn’t give the governor a second term,” Wike said.

The FCT minister also dismissed concerns that his involvement in the Rainbow Coalition could pose a threat to the political calculations of the 2027 general elections.

Wike advised governors against assuming that they wield absolute political authority or that their preferred decisions must always prevail.

He argued that electoral victories are not determined solely by occupying the office of governor, recalling that he defeated the preferred candidate of a sitting governor when he contested the Rivers State governorship election.

The minister’s comments are likely to further fuel the political debate surrounding his relationship with APC governors and his role in the unfolding alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
