Nasarawa 2027: Musa Shugaba-Abdullahi Emerges As NDC Governorship Candidate

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has selected Musa Shugaba-Abdullahi as its candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election following a substitution primary held in Lafia, the state capital.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the exercise also produced five candidates for seats in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. The NDC National Treasurer and Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr Peter Onigah, said the primary was conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act and supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Assembly candidates who emerged from the exercise are Iliya Emmanuel Ayas for Kokona West, Lucy Kigbu-Anzaku for Keffi East, Mohammed Ramalan for Keffi West, Micha Mamman for Obi I, and Hussaini Mustapha-Ganuwa for Toto/Gadabuke.

Following his affirmation as the governorship candidate, Shugaba-Abdullahi outlined a five-point agenda focused on education, healthcare, infrastructure, empowerment and security.

He pledged that, if elected, his administration would introduce free and compulsory education for children between the ages of three and 19. According to him, the initiative would help tackle illiteracy and address some of the social challenges affecting residents of the state.

The NDC candidate also promised to prioritise healthcare development, infrastructure and economic empowerment while collaborating with the Federal Government on efforts to address insecurity in the state.

Meanwhile, NDC State Chairman, Comrade Dogo Shammah, explained that the substitution primary became necessary because some constituencies did not have aspirants during the party’s May primaries.

Shammah said the absence of candidates in those constituencies resulted in the use of placeholders, thereby creating the need for the subsequent substitution exercise.
