Shettima’s Adamawa Visit: Police Deploy Special Units, Tighten Security Across Yola

Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to visit Adamawa State on Thursday as he leads a Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit following the death of elder statesman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Shettima’s visit is aimed at conveying the Federal Government’s condolences to the Adamawa State Government, the Adamawa Emirate Council and the immediate family of the late former public servant, who died at the age of 90 and was buried in Yola on Sunday.

Ahead of the Vice President’s arrival, the Adamawa State Police Command has intensified security operations across Yola to ensure the safety of Shettima, his delegation and residents during the visit.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, had ordered the deployment of personnel and operational assets to strategic locations across the state capital.

The deployment includes personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence Unit and Traffic Unit, alongside Divisional Police Officers assigned to various locations.

The police also announced plans for traffic diversions and stop-and-search operations in and around Yola as part of measures to maintain security and ensure the smooth movement of the Vice President and his delegation.

The command appealed to residents to cooperate with security personnel and remain law-abiding throughout the visit. It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.

Nguroje further stated that the Commissioner of Police warned individuals with criminal intentions and anyone seeking to disrupt the visit to stay away from designated venues, stressing that the command would take necessary action against anyone attempting to breach the peace.

Meanwhile, mourners have continued to visit the residence of the late Bamanga Tukur in Yola to pay their respects following his death.

The police command assured residents that it remains committed to protecting lives and property while maintaining peace and order throughout the Vice President’s visit.
