Ronaldo Gets Portugal Call-Up! Jorge Jesus Names First Squad After World Cup Exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in new Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus’ first squad, putting an end to speculation over the veteran forward’s international future.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Ronaldo had yet to confirm whether he would continue representing Portugal following the team’s World Cup round-of-16 defeat to eventual champions Spain in July. The 41-year-old was visibly emotional after the match and said he would return home to discuss his future with his family before making a decision.

However, Jorge Jesus has now named Ronaldo in a 25-man squad for Portugal’s upcoming Nations League fixtures scheduled between September 24 and October 4.

Jesus, 72, took over as Portugal’s head coach following Roberto Martinez’s departure after the World Cup. The experienced manager previously worked with Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo had announced before the World Cup that the tournament would be his final appearance at the competition. His selection by Jesus, however, means he remains available for international duty and could continue his Portugal career beyond the tournament.

The Al-Nassr forward is set to turn 42 before next summer’s Nations League finals and would be 43 by the time of Euro 2028.

Also included in Jesus’ squad are Manchester United players Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and Chelsea forward Pedro Neto.

Portugal will begin the Nations League fixtures by hosting Wales on September 24 at 19:45 BST before travelling to face Norway three days later. They will then visit Denmark on October 1 and return home to host Norway on October 4.
