Married At 47, Mother Of Two: Woman Shares How Her Younger Husband Stood By Her Against All Odds

A Nigerian woman has shared her remarkable marriage and motherhood journey after getting married at the age of 47 and subsequently welcoming two children with her husband, who was 44 when they got married.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman recounted her experience in a Facebook post, revealing that she had initially believed motherhood might not be possible because she was approaching menopause. She also disclosed that some people tried to discourage her husband from marrying her because of their age difference.

The woman said some members of her husband’s family were initially unhappy with his decision because he had reportedly turned down younger women they had introduced to him. Despite the opposition, however, her husband remained committed to the relationship and eventually married her.

She explained that she had no expectation of becoming a mother when she got married at 47, describing herself at the time as being close to menopause. According to her, her husband ignored the concerns of relatives and other people who questioned their decision to marry.

She described the early period of their marriage as a happy one, revealing that her husband took her to Ghana for their honeymoon, where they spent several months together. She also said he treated her affectionately and often pampered her, making her feel much younger despite being older than him.

The woman revealed that she was older than her husband but said their age difference never became a problem in their relationship. She credited her husband’s affection and care for making her feel like a baby and said she now looks younger than him because of the way he treats her.

According to her account, she discovered she was pregnant with their first child while her husband was outside the country. After missing her period, she informed him, although he initially did not understand what she was implying. He reportedly mentioned adoption and assured her that he loved her regardless of whether they had biological children.

After she clarified that she was telling him she was pregnant, he reportedly confirmed what she meant before asking when he should return. The woman said her husband travelled back the following week, and the couple later travelled to Israel during the pregnancy.

She eventually gave birth to their first child in the United Kingdom, with her husband reportedly staying by her side throughout the process. She said the arrival of their child also helped improve her relationship with her husband’s family, who subsequently accepted her.

The woman disclosed that she became pregnant with their second child when their first child was only nine months old. She described the period as emotionally demanding and said she nearly became depressed during the pregnancy.

According to her, her husband provided significant support during that period, while his mother and her sister also assisted her. He reportedly hired a cook and a nanny to make things easier for her before she eventually welcomed their second child in the United Kingdom.

Following the birth of their second child, the woman said her husband underwent a vasectomy.

Reflecting on her journey, she described herself as blessed and encouraged people not to focus solely on age when considering marriage. She said what mattered most to her was finding the right partner, adding that she and her husband come from different ethnic backgrounds, with her being Igbo and her husband from Akwa Ibom.
