Dangote’s Daughter Breaks Silence On Why She And Her Sisters Shun The Spotlight

Halima Dangote, daughter of Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, has explained why she and her sisters, Mariya and Fatima, have deliberately maintained a relatively private lifestyle despite growing up in one of Nigeria’s wealthiest families.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Halima made the disclosure during an interview with Bloomberg’s Next Africa special, where she explained that the sisters preferred to keep their personal lives away from public attention and allow their professional accomplishments to speak for them.

She said the three sisters were not particularly interested in constantly showcasing their wealth, possessions or personal activities, especially on social media.

Halima noted that maintaining a low profile had previously allowed the sisters to move around with less public recognition. However, she acknowledged that their increasing responsibilities within the Dangote Group had made it more difficult for them to remain largely unknown.

The businesswoman explained that she and her sisters wanted to be assessed based on their work and achievements rather than their family background or the wealth associated with the Dangote name.

She pointed to business performance, including sales, profits, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), and overall growth, as indicators of the contributions being made by the sisters in their respective roles within the group.

Halima said the sisters had different approaches from people who were comfortable with social media and public visibility, stressing that none of the three was particularly expressive about what they owned or were doing.

She maintained that their professional results remained the strongest reflection of their efforts, adding that measurable business outcomes were more important to them than public recognition.

Halima also suggested that at least one of the three sisters could eventually emerge as a leader, although she did not identify which of them she believed would take on such a role.
