CAF Shocks Edo Queens As Victory Over Ampem Darkoa Is Annulled

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has annulled Edo Queens’ penalty shootout victory over Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying final.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Nigerian champions defeated Ampem Darkoa 4–1 on penalties after the final ended 2–2 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5, 2026. CAF’s official competition record initially listed Edo Queens as the winners.

However, Ampem Darkoa reportedly protested the decision to proceed directly to a penalty shootout, arguing that the match should have gone into extra time before penalties were considered.

CAF subsequently upheld the protest, ruling that the procedure used to determine the winner did not comply with the competition regulations.

Under Article 72.4 of the relevant regulations, a final that remains level after 90 minutes is required to proceed to two 15-minute periods of extra time. Penalty kicks are only used if the scores remain level after the additional 30 minutes.

As a result, Edo Queens’ 4–1 penalty shootout victory has been cancelled, meaning the contest must be settled through the required extra-time procedure.

The final will resume from the existing 2–2 scoreline, with Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa playing two 15-minute periods of extra time.

If neither team manages to score the decisive goal during extra time, the winner will then be determined through a penalty shootout.

The outcome will determine the WAFU-B representative for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. The two teams had earlier met during the group stage, where Ampem Darkoa defeated Edo Queens 2–1.

The CAF decision means Edo Queens, who had initially secured the qualification ticket following their penalty shootout victory, will have to contest the decisive stages of the final again before the WAFU-B representative is officially determined.
