Nigeria’s Flamingos Crowned WAFU-B U-17 Girls Champions

Nigeria’s Flamingos have been crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after defeating Togo 4-0 in the final to complete an unbeaten campaign.

Captain Chidera Harmony was the standout performer for Nigeria, scoring twice from the penalty spot in the first half to put the Flamingos firmly in control.

Harmony opened the scoring in the 15th minute after converting Nigeria’s first penalty before adding another from the spot in the 35th minute to give her side a 2-0 advantage at half-time.

Nigeria continued to dominate after the restart, with Oluebube Umejiaku extending the lead in the 67th minute.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi then completed the scoring in the 90th minute, sealing a convincing 4-0 victory and confirming Nigeria’s triumph in the regional competition.

The result capped a perfect run for the Flamingos, who won all five of their matches without defeat.

Nigeria began the tournament with a commanding 5-0 victory over Niger Republic before defeating Ghana 4-2. The team followed that result with a 2-0 win against Burkina Faso, with Mary Dunstan and Adegbuyi getting on the scoresheet.

The Flamingos then defeated hosts Côte d’Ivoire 2-0, with Adegbuyi and Pattra Oparanmegwa scoring for Nigeria before the team completed their campaign with the emphatic victory over Togo.

The five-match winning run saw Nigeria finish the tournament unbeaten while securing the WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup in impressive fashion.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the title provides coach Hakeem Busari and his players with additional momentum as they continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
