Mancini Breaks Silence, Dismisses Man City Double Contract Allegations

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has dismissed questions surrounding an alleged “double contract” from his time at the Premier League club, saying the matter is not his concern.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Mancini addressed the controversy while speaking at a press conference ahead of Italy’s Nations League meeting with Turkey.

The former City manager was questioned about allegations relating to his remuneration during his three-and-a-half-year spell at the club between 2009 and 2013. During that period, Mancini guided Manchester City to the FA Cup in 2011 and the club’s first English top-flight title in 44 years in 2012.

The Premier League’s 115 charges against Manchester City included 14 allegations concerning the accuracy of information provided about payments to players and managers between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. Recent reports say an independent commission found the club liable for all but one of the charges, although sanctions have not yet been announced and the broader process remains ongoing.

When asked about the allegations concerning his contract, Mancini said the matter had been discussed for several years and did not concern him.

He also maintained that Manchester City had not been found guilty, while distancing himself from the alleged arrangement.

The controversy stems partly from a 2018 report by German publication Der Spiegel, which alleged that a significant portion of Mancini’s compensation was paid through a consultancy agreement involving Abu Dhabi-based club Al Jazira. The allegation has been part of wider questions surrounding City’s financial dealings during the period covered by the Premier League case.

Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and have said the Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements still to be completed under strict confidentiality. The club has also maintained that it expects the process to be conducted fairly and has continued to defend its position.

No sanctions had been announced at the time of Mancini’s comments, while the Premier League has declined to comment publicly on the details of the independent commission’s findings.

Mancini, who is now in charge of the Italy national team, is expected to focus on his current international duties as the dispute involving his former club continues.
