Sad News: Former NYSC Director-General Is D**d

Former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Colonel Peter Kolawole Obasa, has died at the age of 81.

Obasa reportedly passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, with the NYSC management expressing grief over the death of the retired military officer and former head of the scheme.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Obasa served as the third Chief Executive of the NYSC between 1979 and 1984, during the organisation’s formative years.

The current NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid a condolence visit to the late officer’s family at his residence in Ilorin, Kwara State, following his death.

During the visit, Nafiu described Obasa as one of the early administrators who played an important role in developing the administrative structure of the NYSC. He acknowledged the late former director-general’s contributions to the growth of the scheme and noted that his work had left a lasting impact on the organisation.

Nafiu said Obasa’s death represented a loss to his family and the NYSC community, while recalling the guidance and support the former director-general provided during his lifetime.

The NYSC boss prayed for the repose of Obasa’s soul and offered condolences to members of his family.

He also assured the family that the NYSC would continue to build on the foundations established by its early leaders while working to strengthen the scheme and preserve its institutional legacy.
