Singapore Reveals Full Conditions For Permanent Residents Seeking Re-Entry Permit
Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has outlined the requirements and procedures for permanent residents (PRs) seeking to apply for or renew their Re-Entry Permit (REP).
According to Bush Radio Academy, applicants must have valid permanent resident status and possess a valid travel document with at least three months remaining before its expiration.
Permanent residents seeking to renew their REP are required to submit their applications online through the ICA’s e-Service within three months of the permit’s expiry date. The authority said applicants generally do not need to provide supporting documents unless they are specifically requested to do so.
For PRs who are outside Singapore and do not have a Singpass account, applications can be made through the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission. However, such applicants are required to submit their applications at least two months before the existing REP expires.
The ICA also highlighted the importance of keeping passport information updated. PRs who obtain a new passport while retaining the same nationality are required to transfer their REP to the new passport by updating their passport details through the designated transfer function.
According to the authority, PR clearance at Singapore’s checkpoints can only be granted when the REP contains accurate and updated passport information. PRs whose permits are not in order are advised to inform immigration officers of their permanent resident status upon arrival.
The ICA also provided details on the applicable fees. Applicants are charged S$10 for every year, or part of a year, covered by the approved REP. Each permit issued attracts a separate fee, while the validity of a newly issued REP begins from its date of issuance after successful payment rather than being treated as an extension of the previous permit.
For online applications, payment must be completed within 14 days after approval. Failure to make payment within that period will result in the application being automatically withdrawn.
The ICA accepts several payment options, including Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards, American Express credit cards, internet direct debit from DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB and Standard Chartered Bank accounts, as well as PayNow.
The authority said the average processing time for REP applications is approximately one week, excluding the day the application is submitted. However, some applications may take longer depending on individual circumstances.
Applicants who submit their applications online can check the outcome through the ICA’s e-Service portal. Those who provide an email address during the application process will also receive notification of the result by email.
