Lagos Is More Expensive Than UK – Oyemykke Sparks Massive Debate Online

Nigerian social commentator Oyemykke has sparked an online debate after comparing the cost of living in Lagos with that of London, claiming that residents may spend more on their lifestyle in Lagos despite the high cost of accommodation in the United Kingdom.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Oyemykke made the remarks in a video shared on his Instagram page while discussing his experience living in the UK.

The social commentator acknowledged that accommodation remains a major challenge in London because of the high cost of rent. However, he argued that other everyday expenses, including food, are relatively affordable compared with what residents may spend on similar items in Lagos.

“Lagos is more expensive to live than London, don’t let anyone deceive you. You’ll spend more money in Lagos on your lifestyle than you will spend here in London,” he said.

Oyemykke maintained that while rent in London is considerably expensive, he considers other aspects of daily living more affordable.

“The only problem we have here is accommodation, rent is stupendously expensive, but aside that every other thing is affordable. Chicken is cheap, food is cheap,” he added.

He further argued that the cost of living could be particularly high in parts of Lagos, mentioning Lagos Island as an example.

His comments have generated reactions online, with social media users debating the differences in housing, food, transportation and other living expenses between Lagos and London. The comparison reflects Oyemykke’s personal experience and view rather than a comprehensive cost-of-living analysis.
