The governments of Kwara, Ekiti and Oyo States have declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers to enable them to participate in activities marking this year’s World Teachers’ Day.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the three state governments announced the holiday in separate statements, describing it as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions of teachers to education and human capital development.

In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced the work-free day and extended his goodwill to teachers across the state. The announcement was contained in a statement issued by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola.

The governor commended teachers for their dedication and contributions to developing human capital, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving their welfare and that of residents across the state.

Similarly, the Ekiti State Government declared Monday a work-free day for teachers in the state. The Commissioner for Education, Dr Adebimpe Aderiye, said the decision was aimed at allowing teachers to participate fully in activities organised to commemorate the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.

Aderiye also acknowledged the role of teachers in shaping the educational development and future of children in the state. She further directed that day students should remain at home on Monday as part of arrangements for the celebration.

In Oyo State, the government also announced that teachers would be allowed to participate in programmes organised to mark the annual occasion.

World Teachers’ Day is observed every October 5 to recognise the vital role teachers play in education and society. The 2026 celebration is expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to appreciate educators and highlight issues affecting the teaching profession.
