Police Arrest Two Men Over Alleged Assault On Officers During Bauchi Vehicle Check
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men over an alleged assault on police officers during a routine vehicle inspection in Bauchi.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026, along Yelwa Road, where officers attached to the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team were carrying out routine enforcement under Operation Velvet.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the patrol team intercepted a vehicle occupied by two men identified as Friday, whose surname was not immediately available, and Yunana Ali.
The officers reportedly requested the vehicle’s documents for inspection, but the suspects allegedly refused to comply and became hostile. The police said the duo subsequently physically assaulted members of the patrol team, with the uniform of one of the inspectors allegedly torn during the confrontation.
The suspects were reportedly subdued by the officers and taken into custody at the ‘E’ Division, where an investigation has commenced.
The command said the men were arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy, obstruction of public officers on duty, assault and malicious damage.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged incident, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and an attempt to undermine law enforcement efforts aimed at maintaining public safety.
The commissioner warned that assaulting police officers while they are carrying out their lawful duties would not be tolerated. He also urged members of the public who have grievances with law enforcement officers to use lawful channels to seek redress.
The police said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The command further appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with officers during routine checks and avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace.
