“Why Spend Millions On The D3ad? Lady Questions Expensive Funeral Traditions, Sparks Debate

Published

A young lady has sparked widespread reactions on social media after questioning the practice of spending huge sums of money on elaborate funeral ceremonies instead of supporting people financially while they are still alive.

In a viral video shared online, the lady expressed her confusion over the tradition of organising lavish burial ceremonies, which often involve hosting parties, sewing special outfits, preparing large quantities of food and spending millions of naira to honour the deceased.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the lady argued that such expenses could be more meaningful if directed towards improving the lives of loved ones before their death.

“I feel like humans are so sentimental because I’ve never understood the concept of funerals — hosting parties, sewing clothes, cooking food and spending millions over a dead body. Is it not better to just spend the money when the person is alive?” she asked.

Her comments have generated considerable debate across social media, with several users agreeing that people should prioritise caring for their loved ones while they are alive rather than spending excessively on funeral ceremonies.

The discussion has also reignited conversations about the financial implications of elaborate burials and the cultural significance attached to funeral celebrations in many communities.

While some people share her view that love and financial support should be demonstrated during a person’s lifetime, others believe funeral ceremonies remain an important tradition for honouring the deceased, celebrating their legacy and bringing family members and friends together to pay their final respects.
