Rochas Okorocha Regains Freedom After Police Detention, Asked To Return On Tuesday

Former Imo State Governor and Senator Rochas Okorocha has reportedly been released on police bail after being detained and questioned for about one hour at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja.

The police confirmed his release through their spokesperson, CSP Aniete Iniedu, who disclosed that Okorocha was questioned over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

According to the police spokesperson, the former governor was granted bail and directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations into the allegations continue.

The police reportedly arrested Okorocha after he failed to honour previous invitations issued in connection with the ongoing investigation. He was initially scheduled to appear before investigators on September 2, but the appointment was reportedly rescheduled to September 8 following a request from his lawyers.

However, the former governor allegedly failed to attend the rescheduled meeting, prompting further action by the police.

Before his reported detention, Okorocha had denied claims that a court order had been issued for his arrest over allegations involving criminal conspiracy, forgery and the use of false documents.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha accused the Imo State Government of being behind what he described as false reports concerning the alleged arrest warrant.

He challenged those making the claims to produce the purported court order within 48 hours or retract the reports, warning that he could pursue legal action if they failed to do so.

The latest development comes as the police continue their investigation into the allegations against the former governor. His release on bail does not amount to a determination of guilt, and the allegations remain subject to the outcome of the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Okorocha’s release marks a temporary development in the ongoing police investigation, with further questioning expected as authorities seek to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
