Kwara Police Hunt Conoil Truck Driver, Motor Boy After Polytechnic Student’s Body Was Buried As Unknown

The Kwara State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a Conoil truck driver and his motor boy in connection with the death of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic whose body was reportedly handed over to the truck crew before being buried as an unidentified corpse.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, confirmed the development on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, saying officers were working to apprehend the two suspects. A tricycle operator who allegedly conveyed the deceased’s body and later handed it over to the truck crew has reportedly been arrested.

The deceased, identified as Sheu, was said to have been struck by the truck around the Government Secondary School area of Ilorin on Friday.

According to a family member, Sheu had borrowed a motorcycle from one of his brothers to purchase clothes for his side business when the incident occurred. He reportedly lived with his mother in Shao, Moro Local Government Area, where he assisted her with her clothing business. The family is from Eyombo Anabi compound in Ilorin.

Concern grew when Sheu failed to return the motorcycle. A relative said the motorcycle’s owner called his phone after 9 p.m., but an unidentified person answered. The family member alleged that a voice could be heard in the background questioning why the call had been answered before the line went dead.

Repeated attempts to reach Sheu were unsuccessful, prompting his relatives to begin searching for him.

The family later learnt that a body had been discovered on a bridge in the Oko-Olowo area of Ilorin after residents alerted the police to a suspected fall from a moving vehicle. The corpse was initially classified as unidentified and buried by local government health officials.

The family said it recognised Sheu from a photograph taken before the burial and subsequently arranged for the body to be exhumed for confirmation.

A relative alleged that the tricycle operator, identified as Basit, had witnessed the incident and helped transport Sheu to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel reportedly confirmed that he had been brought in dead.

The family further claimed that Basit later presented himself as the deceased’s brother, took custody of the body and handed it over to the Conoil truck crew after leaving the hospital. Relatives questioned why he allegedly failed to inform hospital personnel that he had only assisted in conveying the deceased.

The family said it wanted the investigation to establish why the body was handed over to the truck crew and whether the action resulted from ignorance or was motivated by financial gain. The relative added that the missing motorcycle was later found at Kulende Police Station during the family’s search.

Confirming the police investigation, Commissioner Adekimi said officers had discovered an unidentified body on a bridge and sent its photograph to the family for identification. He explained that the corpse had already been buried before relatives identified it, leading to its exhumation for confirmation.

The police commissioner also confirmed that the tricycle operator had handed the body to the truck driver but reportedly claimed he did not know where the truck crew subsequently took it.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the driver and motor boy, who are said to be employees of Conoil, as the police investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and the handling of his body.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the family is seeking justice and answers as the police continue their investigation into the incident.
