Nigerian gospel music has been thrown into mourning following the death of singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, with the Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON), Seun Oloketuyi, sharing a distressing account of the circumstances surrounding his demise.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Oloketuyi disclosed that the gospel singer reportedly slumped on a staircase and was rushed to different hospitals in an attempt to obtain medical attention.

In a post shared on his Instagram account, the BON chief executive alleged that two hospitals turned the singer away before a third medical facility eventually accepted him and subsequently confirmed his death.

Expressing grief over the incident, Oloketuyi described the circumstances as deeply painful and lamented the reported difficulties encountered while efforts were being made to secure medical assistance for the singer.

In his emotional tribute, he wrote, “You slumped on the stairs, and they began rushing you from one hospital to another. The first hospital rejected you, the second hospital rejected you, and by the time you got to the third hospital, they said you were gone.”

He accompanied the account with the expression, “Death, shame on you,” reflecting his anguish over the singer’s passing.

Toluwanisings’ death was first publicly announced on Wednesday by Pelumi Olajengbesi, convener of the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates (COPA), in a post on Instagram.

Olajengbesi expressed sorrow over the development and called for God’s mercy upon the deceased, while also raising concerns about the loss of young Nigerians.

Following uncertainty surrounding reports of the singer’s death, his family subsequently confirmed the news in a statement published on his official Instagram page.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged refusal of medical facilities to treat the singer have drawn attention to concerns about access to emergency medical care. However, the claims regarding the hospitals have not been independently verified in the information available.

Toluwanisings’ death represents a painful loss to his family, friends, fans and the Nigerian gospel music community, with tributes emerging as news of his passing spreads.
