Iyabo Obasanjo Bello, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has dismissed speculation that she is no longer on good terms with her father, describing their relationship as one that has evolved into a close friendship while retaining a strong family bond.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the former Ogun State senator made this known during an interview with TVC, where she addressed public speculation about the state of their relationship.

Iyabo, who is the eldest child of the former president, explained that their relationship had changed over the years as they both approached significant milestones in their lives.

She disclosed that she would turn 60 next year, while her father would celebrate his 90th birthday in the same year.

According to her, their relationship now goes beyond the traditional father-daughter dynamic, as she has grown older and no longer requires the same level of parental guidance she needed when she was younger.

Iyabo stressed that although they relate more like friends, their bond remains rooted in a deep family connection.

Her comments come amid speculation about a possible rift between her and the former president. However, she dismissed the claims, indicating that the evolution of their relationship should not be mistaken for estrangement.

The former lawmaker’s remarks highlight how the relationship between parents and their adult children can change with age, evolving towards friendship and mutual understanding while preserving family ties.
