Nasarawa Government Rewards Solid Miners After Historic Win Over Inter Lagos
Nasarawa United players have received a ₦1 million reward from the Nasarawa State Government following their 2-0 victory over Inter Lagos in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday night.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the financial reward was presented in recognition of the team’s first away victory of the 2026/2027 NPFL season, which the club described as the biggest away win in its history.
The Solid Miners secured all three points at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, after scoring twice within the opening 16 minutes of the encounter.
Kelechi Ogbobo opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Ugochukwu Leonard doubled Nasarawa United’s advantage five minutes later, giving the visitors a commanding lead that they maintained until the final whistle.
Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Jibril Abdullahi Ibrahim, and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Stephen Iliya Sasetu, presented the ₦1 million reward to the players in recognition of their performance.
The victory lifted Nasarawa United to fifth position on the league table, with 14 points from nine matches, strengthening their position as they pursue their objectives for the season.
Speaking after the match, the team’s assistant coach, Stephen Moga, said the players had been working strategically to improve their results and achieve their targets in domestic and continental competitions.
“We have been strategising to get the results we desire so that we can achieve our targets, both in the league and on the continent,” Moga said.
Despite the victory, the assistant coach also expressed confidence that Inter Lagos would recover from their difficult position in the league, describing the opposition as a competitive side.
“Inter Lagos are not a bad side. We were simply better today. I believe they will get out of their current position,” he added.
Nasarawa United will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Enyimba, scheduled for Sunday at the Lafia City Stadium, where they will aim to build on their impressive away performance.
